2009 Findleton El Dorado Pinot noir, Estate Grown

Our 2009 Findleton Estate and Vineyard Pinot noir beautifully reflects our chalky volcanic soil and unique growing site situated at 3,000 ft elevation on Weber Creek. The high elevation allows for cooler days and much lower over-all heat accumulation throughout the growing season. The cooler temperature enables the Pinot noir to ripen slowly, which is necessary to develop and retain its varietal and terroir driven characteristics. Our Estate Pinot noir was cropped at less than 1 ton per acre and was hand picked, sorted, and underwent a three day cold soak and a slow fermentation. The wine was aged on its lees for 14 months in 25% new French oak and was bottled unfined and unfiltered as to minimize the handling of the fragile grape variety.  Our vineyard granted us with a very delicate, light bodied, yet well-balanced and complex Pinot noir. Earthy notes reminiscent of smoke, cedar, and mushroom delightfully counterbalance the bouquet of plum, strawberry, perfume, and herbes de provence. The palate is bright with hints of earth, plum, and cherry and is supported by soft tannins and firm acidity. Only 75 cases produced.
