The 2006 Findleton Estate and Vineyard Syrah, named after Pamela Findleton’s “Raven Red” painting, is 90% Syrah from Marchini Vineyard in Placerville and 10% Syrah from Matson Vineyard in Pleasant Valley. The grapes were hand picked, gently crushed and destemmed, and fermented in small lots with a combination of yeast strains to enhance complexity. The wine was barrel aged with approximately 20% new oak for 18 months. The Raven Red Syrah is deep red-purple, with a bouquet of boysenberry preserves, cassis, and hints of sassafras, accentuated by clove and incense. The pallet is soft and full, with a touch of warmth, and luscious fruit forward flavors of ripe red berries. The finish is long with lingering flavors of white pepper and spicy oak.
