The name Findleton comes from Scotland, and it has quite a tale.
History reminds us of a time when Scotland was not at peace with their neighbors to the south, England.
They became close allies with the French because they both were enemies of England. The French language became known my many a Scot...and there in lies the answer to the question; Where does the name Findleton derive it's origin?
Our ancestor's were part of a great and noble clan, the Ogilvy's and at one time they controlled as much land as the eye could see in all directions. The motto of the Olgilvy Clan is "A FIN" which is French for the "End". They would toast to "The End" or "A FIN".
The French words for "end of the earth" is "Fin de la terre". So those families that lived "at the end of the earth" became the "Findleton's", "Findley's" or the "Findlater". While we no longer live on the "end of the earth" or far off out skirts of the clan, the knowledge of this history does explain many of the unique characteristics of the Findleton's.
A Toast...."To A FIN!"
This means to the end.
